About Dark Theory
What is Dark Theory?
Dark Theory is a platform game created by Vigilindie. Taking notes from adventure games such as Shantae and Metroid, Dark Theory delivers an adventure with less emphasis on role-playing elements, but rather on platforming skills and parkour techniques. You explore an open world, but acquire new moves along the way to access new areas.
So, what's the story?
Cole Cameron Jr. is the young, teenage son of a prominent physicist, Dr. Cameron. After the death of Cole’s older brother Richard in a motorcycle accident, Dr. Cameron deals with his stress by spending all of his time on his work and neglecting Cole. Trying to win his father’s affections, Cole works on his father’s experimental teleportation device late at night. A freak lightning bolt strikes the particle accelerator for the machine, and the resulting catastrophe sends Cole to a “parallel world”. Cole must enlist the help of the parallel world’s versions of himself and his father in order to find the “Dark Theory”, which allows for inter-universe travel. However, a series of terrorist attacks in the parallel world thrusts Cole into being blamed for the attacks. Cole must stop the attacks, return home, and reconcile with his father, all while battling his inner demons and fears.
Cool! So how much does this cost?
When released, Dark Theory: Eradication will be free for all to play!
So where can I download the soundtrack?
I'm making a Bandcamp page to download the songs at. They'll be free.
What are you using to make this game?
Game Maker 8.1, GIMP, and FL Studio 9 (trial version). I write the code, make most of the graphics, and my brother and I make the music.
What are the graphics like?
Keeping with the spirit of retro platformer games, this game has a 16-bit style.
What will the mood of the game be like? And if the ESRB rated it, what would it get?
Dark Theory is written to be funny and entertaining, while keeping the story intact and delivering its message appropriately. The game is generally intended for all audiences, but has some sparce minor swearing, dramatic scenes, minor violence, and some dark moments. It would most likely receive an E10+ (Everyone 10+) or T (Teen) rating.
WHEN IS IT COMING OUT AARRRRGGHGHGH
This isn't your daddy's Game Maker game. I'm spending as much time on it as I can to make the world of Dark Theory the best it can be. It'll be done when it's done. (2013-ish)
